Steven Kautz
Steven Kautz is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University. He taught in the Department of Political Science at Emory University from 1988-1999. Kautz is the author of Liberalism and Community (Cornell University Press, 1995), a defense of classical liberalism against contemporary communitarian critics of liberalism. Among his other publications are articles on "The Postmodern Self and the Politics of Liberal Education" (Social Philosophy & Policy, January 1996); "Privacy in Community" (in the The Legacy of Rousseau, ed. Clifford Orwin and Nathan Tarcov, University of Chicago Press, 1997); and "Liberty, Justice, and the Rule of Law" (Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities, Summer 1999). He is currently writing on the political thought of Abraham Lincoln and on republican citizenship after the culture wars.
