Rochelle Gurstein

Rochelle Gurstein is the author of The Repeal of Reticence: A History of America's Cultural and Legal Struggles Over Free Speech, Obscenity, Sexual Liberation and Modern Art. The Repeal of Reticence has been praised as a thoughtful and penetrating analysis of how the "party of exposure" replaced the "party of reticence" over the last century and opened American public life to matters once hidden away in private.  Rochelle Gurstein has taught at New York University and Bard College.  An independent writer, she is a frequent contributor to the New Republic, Salmagundi, and American Scholar.
